Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)

One of the most world famous painter, sculptor, architect, inventor and engineer of the Renaissance, he moved to Milan and worked for the Sforza family. Here he spent 17 years from 1499 to 1516 producing some his best paintings and engineering works such as: “ The Monalisa” , “St. John the Baptist” and “The Navigli”.

 

Michelangelo Caravaggio (1573-1610)

An Italian Baroque painter, he studied painting in Milan and producing many famous works such as: “St. Matthew” and “The Conversion of St. Paul”. He moved to Rome, where he enjoyed a life full of luxury and had a turbulent lifestyle. He died in Rome in 1610, but his body was never found.

 

Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)

The renowned Italian composer was born in Parma, but attended a Jesuit school here in Milan were his musical talent was discovered. He performed at the “Scala Theatre” and reached the heart of the Milanese audience with his famous opera “Nabucco”. Other important operas were “La Traviata” and “Il Trovatore”, together with “Aida”.

 

Umberto Boccioni (1882-1917)

Italian thinker, painter and sculptor Boccioni is famous for his “Futurist” art masterpieces. Born in Reggio Calabria, he moved to Milan where he met Marinetti and founded together the Futurism Manifesto, that rejected all old artistic traditions and ideas. He died after falling off a horse in 1917.

 

Giorgio Armani (1934- )

One of the most celebrated fashion designers of the world, he grew up near Milan and created a hugely successful fashion line. He worked also for Hollywood film industry designing many beautiful clothing for actresses and actors such as: Sofia Loren, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jodie Forster. Today his fashion style dominates all the most important international fashion shows.
